The ink box is a perfect square, made of wood with lacquer all over. It has a flat bottom and a flat lid, connected by hinges. There is a button on the front of the lid. Except for the plain bottom, the other five sides are decorated with gold-inlaid dragon patterns. The lid features a dragon inside a sea-棠-shaped opening, with a swastika-patterned background. The front shows two dragons, and one dragon each on the sides and the back.
