Collection Introduction: This vase features a square mouth, gilt rim, constricted neck, and square body. The entire vase is covered with a blue glaze as the ground, adorned with a bird-and-flower motif, utilizing the 'zhadai' (incised) technique, and supported by four square feet. The colors of this vase are beautiful and subdued, the brushwork is smooth and precise, the body is delicate, and the glaze is lustrous, making it a masterpiece of porcelain from the prosperous Qianlong era.
After long-term development, Chinese ceramic art reached its peak during the Qianlong period. The outstanding achievements of porcelain in this prosperous era were built upon the nation's strong power, the emperor's emphasis, and the dedication of potters such as Tang Ying. Emperor Qianlong was concerned with the production of porcelain, participating in and approving many aspects of imperial porcelain, including its form, glaze color, and decoration. To cater to Emperor Qianlong's preferences, Tang Ying, the superintendent of pottery, also experimented with producing some uniquely shaped porcelains. Official kilns during the Qianlong period produced underglaze porcelains such as blue and white and underglaze red, overglaze porcelains such as cloisonné enamel and famille rose, as well as numerous monochrome glazed works.
