Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period. A Five Blessings jade accessory, made of white jade. It features five gourds of varying sizes, entwined with vines. This jade gourd is as pure white as solidified mutton-fat jade, embodying both excellent material and exquisite craftsmanship, typical of jade artistry from the Qianlong period. The gourd, also known as 'pulu,' is a homophone for 'fu lu' (blessings and prosperity). As this piece features five gourds, it is a homophone for 'wu fu' (five blessings), hence its name.

Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty, Five Blessings Jade Accessory, made of white jade. Five gourds of various sizes, with vines entwining around them. This jade gourd is as pure white as congealed mutton fat jade, embodying excellent material and exquisite craftsmanship, displaying typical characteristics of jade carving art from the Qianlong period. The gourd is also known as 'pulu' (蒲蘆), which is homophonous with 'fulu' (福祿), meaning 'good fortune and high emolument'. These five gourds are homophonous with 'wufu' (五福), meaning 'five blessings', hence the naming. Its branches and stems are called 'mandai' (蔓帶), homophonous with 'wandai' (萬代), meaning 'ten thousand generations'. Therefore, 'pulu mandai' (蒲蘆蔓帶) is homophonous with 'fulu wandai' (福祿萬代), symbolizing 'good fortune and high emolument for ten thousand generations' and 'great auspiciousness and prosperity'. The gourd together with its stems and leaves is referred to as 'zisun wandai' (子孫萬代), meaning 'generations of descendants'. Furthermore, as gourds contain many seeds, countless and innumerable, they symbolize a long line of descendants and abundant progeny, thus conveying the auspicious meaning of 'many sons and grandsons' and 'enduring prosperity for the nation'.
