The inkpad box is a perfect cube, with a wooden body, lacquered all over, and a flat bottom and flat lid. The lid and box are connected by hinges, and a button is set on the rim of the front lid. Except for the plain bottom surface, the other five surfaces are depicted with dragon motifs in qiangjin (incised gold) technique. On the lid, a soaring dragon is depicted within a begonia-shaped cartouche, with the remaining background adorned with swastika brocade patterns. The front side depicts a pair of dragons, while each of the two sides and the back of the box depicts a single soaring dragon.

Except for the plain bottom, the other five sides are decorated with dragon patterns in a qiangjin (engraved gold) technique. The lid features a soaring dragon within a begonia-shaped cartouche, with a swastika brocade pattern filling the rest of the space. The front depicts two dragons, and each of the two sides and the back of the box features a single soaring dragon. The entire piece is predominantly red, with qiangjin polychrome painting, creating a lively and festive atmosphere with rich decorative effect.
