The phrase "Hundreds of Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix" originates from Li Fang's "Taiping Yulan" (Imperial Readings of the Taiping Era) from the Song Dynasty, Volume 915, which cites the "Tang Shu" (Book of Tang): "Haizhou reported that a phoenix was seen above the city wall, followed by hundreds of birds, flying northeast towards Cangwu Mountain." Later, it was said that in gratitude for the phoenix's life-saving grace, hundreds of birds would gather from all directions to celebrate its birthday each year, thus becoming the legend of "Hundreds of Birds Paying Homage to the Phoenix" as it is known today. This piece is a Famille Rose thin-bodied bowl made with this theme, featuring a flared rim, deep belly, and ring foot. The inside of the foot bears a six-character seal mark "Made in Jingdezhen, China" in seal script, and the body is firm and thin-walled. The exterior is decorated with an illustration of the phoenix, leader of the birds, proudly revered by other birds like stars surrounding the moon. The scene is rich and vibrant, the birds are lifelike, the composition is well-arranged with a sense of auspiciousness and harmony. The entire piece is large in size and is a representative work of new Famille Rose porcelain from the Jingdezhen kiln during the Republic of China period.
