The brush pot has a slightly flared mouth and base, a constricted waist, and a unique and exquisite shape. The body is decorated with a continuous scene of the "Plum Blossom Wife and Crane Son" motif, rendered in underglaze blue and red. The underglaze blue is vibrant and bright, with clear layering. The underglaze red depicts plum blossoms, creating an interesting contrast with the underglaze blue. The main figure is a refined scholar, with a serene expression, wearing official robes. He is accompanied by a crane and a young attendant. On the side, there are banana leaves and strange rocks, meticulously depicted with careful composition.
The theme is "Plum Blossom Wife and Crane Son". In the painting, the scholar takes plum blossoms as his wife and cranes as his sons. Literati often use this as a metaphor for a reclusive life and a state of noble detachment and self-contentment. It is also one of the common themes in traditional Chinese painting. This theme originates from "Brush Talks from Dream Brook, Volume 10: Human Affairs II" by Shen Kuo of the Song Dynasty.
