Yang Qingqing (1895-1957) was from Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. He graduated from the Shanghai School of Fine Arts. In 1912, he followed Zhou Xiang in founding the "Shanghai Academy of Painting and Art". In 1919, he co-founded the "Tianma Society" with Liu Yanong, Zhang Chenbo, and others. In 1920, he collaborated with Zhang Yuguang, Qian Binghe, Shen Baichen, and others to publish the periodical "Huiji". In 1927, he was active in the "Shanghai Art Garden Research Institute" with Wang Yachen, Wang Yiting, Zhu Qizhan, Pan Tianshou, and others. In 1929, he served as an editor for "Meizhan" and an American publication with Xu Zhimo, Li Zuhang, Chen Xiaod ie, and others. He also devoted himself to watercolor painting and cartoon creation, and was one of the famous early cartoonists in China. From the 1930s onwards, he specialized in Chinese painting, with landscapes in the style of Yun Nantian, elegant and refined; he was also skilled in painting withered trees, bamboo and rocks, and flowers, all imbued with a scholarly air, and also painted small fish, exquisite and unique. He held a painting exhibition at the "Hushe" in the spring of 1946, served as a member of the Collection Committee of the Shanghai Art Museum Preparatory Office in 1947, and was appointed a painter when the Shanghai Chinese Painting Academy was established in 1956.
