The center of this piece is decorated with underglaze blue waves, and a dragon painted in red pigment is depicted with claws outstretched, surging through the waves. Nine red dragons are painted on the exterior, appearing to rise and fall as they move through the red, turbulent waves, their whiskers and manes flowing, creating a majestic scene.

This piece features a central medallion with underglaze blue painted sea waves, and a dragon painted in red enamel, its claws outstretched, surging through the waves. Nine red dragons on the outer wall are depicted in various postures, swimming amidst the red enamel waves, their manes and whiskers flowing, their presence commanding. The Nine Dragons at Sea motif was one of the most popular decorative themes for porcelain during the Ming and Qing dynasties. This style of blue and red enamel Nine Dragons at Sea dish was first created in the Xuande imperial kilns of the Ming dynasty. Upon its creation, it became a classic, greatly admired by emperors of both the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Qing dynasty's Kangxi reign continued its production until the late Qing, making it a classic imperial style.
