The censer imitates the form of a bronze censer from the Xuande period of the Ming Dynasty. It has a flared rim, a constricted neck, a flattened round belly, a ring foot, and two handles on either side. It is fitted with an openwork carved wooden lid and base, which are well-matched and add elegance. The top of the lid is cleverly decorated with a ruyi pattern and features a long Hetian jade finial. The entire piece is covered with Dehua white glaze, which is fair, lustrous, ivory-white in color, and resembles congealed fat. The body is delicate and solid. There are no further decorations on its surface, presenting a simple and unadorned look. The overall shape of the piece is dignified and elegant, with smooth and beautiful lines, ancient and refined, making it a beloved desk ornament for literati and refined scholars.
