The bowl has a folded rim. The inner wall of the bowl is painted with the "Five Bats Offering Longevity" motif, with five vanadium red bats hovering in the center, symbolizing health and longevity. Outside the "Shou" (longevity) character pattern, flowers are clustered together, adding more joy and aesthetic appeal. The outer wall of the bowl is entirely covered in apple green, which is the rarest glaze color during the Yongzheng reign. Its smooth and even luster is admirable. Although China is rich in lead and antimony, it was not until missionaries arrived in China that their use was promoted, leading potters to add copper to lead and antimony, achieving a striking apple green glaze like this one. Apple green glaze is fired at low temperatures, so ceramics of this color must undergo re-firing, resulting in such pure coloration.
