It has a round mouth, a short neck, plump shoulders, a gradually tapering body, and a foot ring. The shoulders are adorned with deer heads. Eggplant Purple (Qiepi Zi) is a type of color glaze fired by imperial kilns during the Ming and Qing dynasties. It gets its name because its color resembles the purple of an eggplant. Manganese is used as a colorant, and it is fired at a kiln temperature of around 850 degrees Celsius. Its color is purple with a hint of blue, and the glaze is thick, lustrous, and smooth. There are two shades of the glaze: the deeper shade appears purplish-black, while the lighter shade appears pale purple. Those without cracks are considered superior.
