This auction item is made from Hetian white jade, which is pure white, lustrous, and translucent. The overall shape is neat and rectangular, with a blade-like edge at the bottom that is curved. Dragon patterns are carved using relief techniques; the patterns are ancient, fierce, and mysterious, carved symmetrically, mimicking the dragon patterns on Shang Dynasty bronze ware. The 'House with Dragon' motif comes from ancient jade carving atlases. Because the axe (fu) symbolizes power, and 'axe' (fu) is a homophone for 'house' (fu), it is a respectful term for the other party's family, while the dragon represents the son in the family.
