This item has a constricted mouth, a flattened spherical body, a gradually tapering belly, and a ring foot. Yellow has always been cherished by ancient emperors, so its use was strictly controlled. The brush washer's inner and outer walls are entirely covered with yellow glaze, which is smooth, pure, moist, and delicate; on the yellow ground of the outer wall, a five-clawed dragon playing with a pearl is depicted. The patterns are filled with green enamel and outlined in black ink. The auspicious dragon is vigorous and powerful, displaying a grand and majestic imperial aura. The bottom bears a six-character, two-line mark, "Made in the Daoguang Era of the Great Qing Dynasty." According to the "History of the National Dynasty Palace," in the Qing imperial palace, the Emperor, Empress Dowager, and Empress used porcelain entirely covered with yellow glaze both inside and out; Imperial Noble Consorts used porcelain with yellow exteriors and white interiors; Noble Consorts and Consorts used yellow-ground porcelain with green dragons; and other minor consorts and ladies of nobility all used yellow-ground porcelain with purple dragons. According to the Qing classic "Illustrated Regulations on Imperial Utensils," yellow-ground articles with green dragon patterns were used by concubines of the second and third ranks. This demonstrates the strict hierarchy of the Qing imperial palace and the well-established and intricate regulations concerning the use of porcelain.
